Jesus is the container of God, like water in a pitcher. St. Paul said Jesus is “the image”, the face of the invisible God.
“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” – Colossians 1:15 (KJV)
Imagine someone standing behind a thin curtain pressing his facial features into the curtain. The curtain is Jesus. Or a mask of someone’s face. Jesus is the living mask of the invisible God. No one else ever was that perfect image, that perfect mask. That perfect visible copy of God.
The Greek New Testament says, that Jesus is the “LOGO” of God, translated into English as the WORD of God, translated into Chinese as “DAO”. Right! The ‘Dao’ from Daoism or Taoism. It is all in the translation! Translation is finding the right WORD to cover the intrinsic meaning. Likewise Jesus is the perfect “TRANSLATION” of God to Man.
“I invisible God, you visible man, you don’t understand! You need some One to help you see, Me! Invisible Me! I need a glass container to pour my invisible water into, a balloon to pump mu invisible gas, my Self, into a form! So you can see, in order to conceive, to understand, to grasp my Eternal being.”
Jesus is God’s television, broadcast from afar. The perfect vision of Him. There is no other vision of God that was so perfect.
Everything has a beginning and an end, except Eternity, which like God Himself has never had a beginning and will never have any end. The Father has been forever and will be forever. Jesus, the Son, however, was the Creation of God in the beginning!
John said, “In the beginning was the Word” — that’s Jesus — “and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”, because He was the Son of God! (John 1:1)
Jesus is God, in a way, part of God, part of the Trinity or a part of the oneness of God, the same way as in a family, where husband and wife are one but each is a different personality.
Jesus was there at Creation. In fact Jesus was the Creator! God created Jesus, and Jesus created the world. “All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made!” (John 1:3)
Although Jesus has an absolute unique place as the only begotten Son of God, He had a beginning like you and me, perhaps to help him understand us better. But He’ll have no end — like us — because we are going to live forever with Jesus, Who said, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. The Lord which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty
Are you a good picture of Love? Forgiveness? Mercy? You may talk all about “the ever merciful” and all such religious drivel, but are you the perfect back up of His Mercy? Or do you kill, rob, steal, murder, behead, deceive, trick, etc? Then your religion is vain, feckless, useless, or worse even, utterly counter-productive. A fake Rolex, a fake Rolls Royce, a fake imitation. That is the hallmark of authenticity, Mercy!
Jesus said, “You need to learn what this means, ‘I will have mercy! Not sacrifice!'” Are you learning? Am I learning? Mercy?
If we have to obtain salvation by producing good works, 5 times a day prayers, church or temple or mosque attendance, then God has not extended mercy yet to us. We can not produce mercy, we have to obtain mercy. In that case mercy has to be given first by the ever merciful. And that is what He did in sending Jesus who mercifully paid our debts FOR us, that if we only accept his payment, his sacrifice of love, if we only believe that He paid our guilt, our debt, then we are free.
But if we refuse to accept Him, and His gift of mercy, forgiveness, erasing of our guilt, then we spit in the face of God. “I don’t need your help, your mercy, your sacrifice. I can do it my self! I am my own god. I can save myself. I am bloody but unbowed.
If that is your statement, and reject His mercy, then how do you expect Him to have merciful mercy on you to save you from falling into death without a lifesaver? You will join the millions of rejectors in death, in the invisible state called Hades in Greek. And it is not far away. Jesus said they are all around us here in the city.
